Dog-Friendly Bydgoszcz: Parks, Riverside Walks and Trails

Bydgoszcz has real green lungs - not just on paper. The largest urban park in Poland, a river cutting through the city centre, a historic 18th-century canal lined with locks. If you live here or are visiting with the pack, you have genuinely good conditions. You just need to know where to go.

Myslecinek - the largest urban park in Poland

Leśny Park Kultury i Wypoczynku Myslecinek covers 830 hectares - the largest urban park in Poland by area. It sits a few kilometres north of the city centre and draws over 1.2 million visitors a year. You could spend a full day here with your dog: kilometres of trails through forest, meadows and paths along ponds.

Key rules to know:

• A lead is required throughout the park - the standard rule for public land in Poland.
• Fenced dog run near ul. Gdanska (by the Water Museum) - dogs can run off-lead here inside the enclosed area.
• Zoo and botanical garden - dogs from outside are not permitted on the grounds of either attraction.

Brda riverside promenade - a walk through the centre

The promenade along the Brda river is one of the most beautiful walking spots in central Bydgoszcz. The revitalised boulevard stretches for several kilometres offering wide paths, benches and views of the historic railway bridges. Dogs are welcome year-round - a lead is required.

This is a route for every season. In winter it's quiet; in summer the tourist traffic picks up - come early morning or in the evening so the pack has more room to explore. Bydgoszcz Canal - a historic riverside route

The Bydgoszcz Canal is one of the oldest navigable canals in Poland - in operation since 1774, now a protected monument and an excellent walking route. A path runs along Sebastian Malinowski Boulevard, passing a series of historic locks. It is calm and sheltered from city traffic - ideal for a longer walk with a dog.

Between locks V and VI along the boulevard there is a fenced off-lead area where dogs can run free. A lead is required along the rest of the route. The full walking loop along the canal covers around 7 km. The city centre and what to know

Wyspa Mlynska (Mill Island) sits in the heart of Bydgoszcz - a picturesque island surrounded by arms of the Brda, with walking paths, greenery and a historic atmosphere. However, the current regulations ban dogs from the central lawn and the area around the Leon Wyczolkowski House. Check the current signage - the rules were updated and remain legally contested. On the island's outer paths and along the surrounding canals dogs on leads are generally tolerated; confirm on arrival.
