Dog-Friendly Jastarnia: Dog Beaches, the Pier and Pine Forest on Hel Peninsula
Jastarnia welcomes dogs year-round - outside the bathing season you have access to almost all beaches. Dog beaches - where can your dog get in the water?
The Jastarnia municipality has designated two official dog-friendly beach sections:
- Entrance 55 - between Jastarnia and Jurata, on ul. Mickiewicza in Jurata, near the wastewater treatment plant. Parking available near the plant. The dog-friendly zone extends 500 m in each direction.
- Entrance 31 - before Kuznica from the Chalupy side. The zone extends 500 m in each direction.
Both sections are free and open around the clock. During the bathing season (roughly May to end of September), dogs are not permitted on the remaining beach sections in the Jastarnia municipality. Outside the season the rules relax considerably - beaches are largely accessible.
Always check the current signage at the beach entrance - regulations can be updated seasonally, and fines for violations reach 500 PLN.
Practical tip: in summer the sand gets hot enough to burn paws by midday. Go out early in the morning or after 6 pm - that's when it's best anyway.
Puck Bay - the quieter side
The shore on the Puck Bay side is a completely different Jastarnia. Shallow, slightly warmer water, gentle gradients, no waves. Dogs can wade in easily - and most do so with enthusiasm. The bay side is usually calmer than the Baltic side, making early morning and evening walks here particularly good.
This is also where you'll find the pier and the fishing port - the starting point for most walks in the town centre.
The pier and fishing port
The pier on Puck Bay reaches far into the bay and offers views of water on both sides of the peninsula from the same spot - on a clear day you can see Gdynia from here. It's a popular walk at any time of day, lit up in the evenings. Dogs on a lead are welcome.
Right next to it, the fishing port - built in 1926, divided into a fishing section and a yacht marina. In the morning you might catch fishermen coming in with their catch. Beside the port stands the lowest lighthouse in Poland (13.3 m), painted in distinctive red and white stripes, photogenic but not open to visitors. The surrounding area is worth a stroll regardless.
Pine forest - shade and peace
A strip of pine forest runs along the entire Hel Peninsula - and this is genuinely the best place to walk with a dog in hot weather. The forest provides shade, the paths are unpaved, and mid-week outside peak season it's noticeably quieter than the promenade.
The cycling trail (around 45 km from Puck to Hel) also runs through the forest - pedestrians and dogs share the path with cyclists, so keep your dog on a lead. Important note: the Helskie Wydmy (Hel Dunes) nature reserve between Jastarnia and Hel is closed to dogs. Walk around it through the forest or along the trail - do not enter the dunes area.

The trail towards Jurata and Kuznica
If you want to walk beyond Jastarnia, the pedestrian and cycling path runs the length of the peninsula. Jurata is 3 km along the shore, Kuznica about 5 km - flat, straightforward walking. Keep your dog on a lead as the path is shared with cyclists.
