Dog-Friendly Sopot: Beaches, Forest Trails and What to Do
Sopot is one of the most dog-friendly towns on the Baltic coast. Dogs are permitted on most of the beach outside guarded bathing area hours. You also have extensive trails through Sopot Forest, walks through North and South Park, and the open green space of Sopockie Blonia near the centre. A lead is required on all public land. Rules can change, so always check current information on the spot.
Sopot is that rare seaside town where your dog is a welcome guest, not an afterthought. It is compact - just a few kilometres of coastline - but packed with options: beach, a forest that starts right behind the last street, and well-kept parks on both sides of the pier. Summer brings the crowds, but the dog-friendly options are better than you might expect.
The Beach - new rules for 2025
Good news for the pack: Sopot formally removed its seasonal beach ban for dogs. Dogs are now allowed on the beach year-round, including summer, as long as they stay under the owner's control and away from the guarded bathing area during its operating hours.
In practice: in July and August, avoid the guarded bathing beach near the pier during lifeguard hours. Outside those zones and hours you are free to walk the sand with your dog. The calmest stretches for dogs are near the border with Gdansk (around entrances 43-45) and near the border with Gdynia. Check current signage on arrival - seasonal sector assignments can be updated.
Practical beach tips:
- Lead - standard practice, especially on the busy central stretch
- Clean up - bins and bag dispensers are at beach entrances
- Avoid midday heat - hot sand burns paws fast
- Bring water - drinking water on the beach is not guaranteed

The Pier - longest wooden pier on the Baltic
At 511 metres, the Sopot pier is the longest wooden pier in Europe - and yes, dogs are allowed on it. Entry is paid in season (check current prices at the gate) and free in winter. A lead and some basic manners are all you need. Walking the pier with a dog gives you wind, open sea on both sides and views across the Tri-City. One of those experiences that just works.
At the pier entrance sits the Skwer Kuracyjny (Spa Square) - a small formal park with paths and greenery, good for a quick leg-stretch between sights.
Sopockie Blonia - open space
Sopockie Blonia is Sopot's main recreation ground, a broad open area near ul. Bitwy pod Plowcami. There is space, greenery and relative quiet within easy reach of the centre - a reliable spot for a daily walk at any time of year.
A lead is required across Blonia. There is also a fenced off-lead area on site, useful when you need an enclosed space and there is no legal open terrain nearby.
North Park and South Park - city parks near the pier
Sopot has two well-maintained public parks on either side of the pier:
North Park (approximately 60 ha) - the larger of the two, with wide paths, benches and the Botanical Garden. Well-lit, so it works for evening walks too. Dogs are welcome on a lead.
South Park - smaller and more formal, with the famous brine inhalation mushrooms and neat flowerbeds. Also dog-friendly on a lead.
Both parks are perfect for daily walks when you want to stay close to the centre but away from the beach bustle.
Sopot Forest - trails through the Tricity Landscape Park
Sopot backs directly onto the vast forest complex of the Tricity Landscape Park - and the forest starts at the edge of the last street. Six marked walking trails fan out into the trees, all named after local wildlife:

All trails are signposted and well-kept. The key rule: a lead is mandatory at all times within the Tricity Landscape Park. Off-lead time is for the fenced run at Blonia only.
Pack water - not every route passes a water source. Ticks are active from spring through autumn; check your dog thoroughly after every forest walk.
